Staff Spotlight: Celeste Robinson, Aletha R. Wright “Vision of Hope” Center

For over six years, Celeste Robinson has been a cornerstone at our shelter for men, the Aletha R. Wright “Vision of Hope” Center (ARWC), bringing enthusiasm, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her role as Administrative Assistant. Originally starting out at ARWC as a Program Assistant, she quickly stepped into her current role, where she wears many hats to ensure the facility runs smoothly.

Ms. Robinson’s path into social services wasn’t one she planned—but rather one she embraced. After years in retail and a role at the Center for Family Services, she heard about a position at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley (VOADV), and Ms. Robinson took a chance. She applied, was hired, and has been making an impact ever since.

From managing paperwork and census reports to maintaining bulletin boards focused on housing and employment opportunities, and ensuring clients feel supported, Ms. Robinson’s days are anything but routine. She handles supplies for Aletha Wright, Home For The Brave and the IMPACT Unit, assists with the facility’s upkeep, and serves as a trusted point of contact for both clients and staff.

Although her role is administrative, Ms. Robinson’s interactions with clients are her favorite part of her day. Whether helping with referrals, printing documents, or simply lending an ear, Celeste makes sure everyone who comes through Aletha Wright’s doors feels welcome and heard.

Her impact at the shelter began almost immediately back in her time as a Program Assistant. One of Ms. Robinson’s initiatives was a program she created called “Hope Bucks.” Clients would participate in activities or discussions and earn “Hope Bucks” to purchase small but meaningful items—things they wouldn’t typically receive through donations, like body sprays and colognes.

She also values seeing former clients return to share their stories. Many who once arrived seeking stability now come back with gratitude and to share how they’ve secured housing and built a brighter future.

For Ms. Robinson, the best part of her work is the people. “Everyone is here for a different reason, and hearing their stories—being able to help them on their journey—is my favorite part,” she shares. “It’s fulfilling and humbling to come here every day.”

As the administrative assistant, Ms. Robinson is also the first face that clients, staff and guests see when they come through Aletha Wright’s door – with her care and dedication she is the first step in creating a welcoming and supportive environment.

Aletha R. Wright Center is always in need of donations and volunteers to assist with projects like the annual Resource Fair, facility upkeep and much more. If interested, or if you want to set up a group volunteer opportunity, please reach out to Tonya House at thouse@voadv.org or click HERE.
