Volunteers of America Delaware Valley to Host Party With A Purpose on March 11th

Camden, NJ – On Wednesday, March 11th from 5:30-8 p.m. at American Water’s headquarters in Camden, Stradley Ronon and Stapleton Law LLC present Party With A Purpose – a special fundraising event designed to raise awareness, engage members of the local legal community and spark action. All funds raised at the event will support the Volunteer UP Legal Clinic, a subsidiary of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley (VOADV), that provides legal assistance to individuals and families in need in South Jersey.

Party With A Purpose will feature delicious food, beer/wine pairings showcasing select New Jersey craft breweries and wineries, networking and more. The event serves as a celebration of the growing volunteer network of attorneys that continues to support the work of the Volunteer UP Legal Clinic, with a dual-purpose of actively seeking new volunteer members and attracting new law firms to help underwrite the costs of running the clinic.

“VOADV initially established the Volunteer UP Legal Clinic as a way to provide legal services to those who typically cannot access this type of critical assistance,” explained Daniel L. Lombardo, President and CEO of VOADV. “Today, the clinic utilizes the knowledge and expertise of area attorneys to provide legal services and government navigation, helping clients overcome legal challenges that could otherwise impede positive growth and continued success.”

The Volunteer UP Legal Clinic provides legal services to different populations including individuals, families, those returning to society from the criminal justice system, homeless veterans and more. In 2019, more than 100 individuals sought legal assistance through the clinic, with services provided by 17 volunteer attorneys representing 13 local law firms.

Jeffrey L. Nash, Esq., founder of The Nash Law Group and member of the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders, is a founding supporter and volunteer attorney for the Volunteer UP Legal Clinic. In addition to his work with the clinic, Nash currently serves as the chair of the clinic’s Advisory Board, helping to garner further support for the clinic and raise greater awareness of its mission.

“A simple fine or violation can have a damaging ripple effect on those who do not know where to turn in when navigating the legal system,” explained Nash. “The Volunteer UP Legal Clinic addresses a distinct need within the South Jersey community. This clinic eliminates those barriers for the community’s most vulnerable individuals, providing guidance and ensuring they are properly represented.”

To date, the following 25 local law firms support the clinic:

• Archer
• Law Offices of Theodore J. Baker
• Brown & Connery, LLP

“The bigger the network of firms, the larger the number of attorneys who can help an even greater segment of the population in need,” explained Nash.

John S. Stapleton, a business litigator and founder of Stapleton Law LLC, has provided numerous hours of volunteer service to the clinic and currently serves on the clinic’s Advisory Board, continuing to lend his time and talents to help those seeking legal advice.

“It is humbling to see how something as simple as access to a lawyer can knock down a tremendous barrier in somebody’s life,” explains Stapleton. “By centralizing requests for legal assistance and matching clients with an expanding network of impressive pro bono lawyers, the clinic is a crucial lifeline for those in need, particularly in Camden. I am proud to be part of the Volunteer UP Legal Clinic and encourage attorneys from across the region to support the clinic in any way possible.”
