VOADV recently opened Home for the Brave Transitional Living and Supportive Services Programs (HFTB), a 30 bed residential VA Grant and Per Diem (GPD) program focused on the needs of homeless veterans. This Program is designed to help break the cycle of homelessness and assist the veteran in reaching their highest level of independence.
The programs currently operating at the Home for the Brave Transitional Living and Supportive Service Programs are
- Grant and Per Diem – Home for the Brave Transitional Living program provides transitional housing services for thirty adult male veterans. The program is funded through the Department of Veterans Administration. Volunteers of America Delaware Valley staff work closely with partners from the Veterans Affairs, the department of labor and Veterans Benefits Administration as well as other community agencies to provide a continuum of services to meet the needs of our veterans. Program staff is trained to evaluate clients from a holistic perspective, reviewing physical, emotional and spiritual needs and offering assistance when it is appropriate.
Case Managers conduct an initial assessment with each client and thereafter, weekly case conference meetings. Clients currently participate in weekly workshops on such topics as: weekly Money Smart, Rent Smart, Smart Recovery, stress management, Life skills and job readiness workshops. The program is staffed 24 hrs a day 365 days a year and includes two nutritional daily meals, transportation and leisure activities.
Veterans enrolled in the GPD may be co-enrolled in HVRP and receive additional services job training and job search assistance.
- Transition in Place (TIP), GPD housing model that offers residents housing in which support services transition out of the residence over time, rather than the resident. This leaves the resident in place at the residence and not forced to find other housing in 24 months or less.
- Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP), funded through the Department of Labor, provides employment services to homeless veterans. The purpose of the Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program (HVRP) is to provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force and to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that will address the complex problems facing homeless veterans. Each year, 125 veterans are assessed for HVRP services and obtain job training and employment. Services provided through HVRP include resume building, job search assistance, interviewing skills, transportation assistance and purchasing of items necessary to secure employment.
