Oscar Night® America 2008Philadelphia, PA - This year, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley’s Oscar Night® America gala raised over $225,000. Close to 300 people attended the black-tie event, which took place on Sunday, February 24th at the Hilton Philadelphia-City Avenue in Philadelphia, PA. Oscar Night® America was hosted by Commerce Bank and presented by WPVI-TV 6ABC, whose on-air personalities truly gave guests a taste of what it would be like to attend the real Academy Awards® in Hollywood, California. At Oscar Night® America, guests were escorted to the door by screaming fans, played by student volunteers, and made their grand entrance via the red carpet. Star-struck fans applauded their arrival and asked for autographs, while Don Polec and Erica Grow of WPVI-TV 6ABC interviewed guests on camera. The star-sized evening continued with an hour-long champagne cocktail reception, live entertainment, and a "Predict the Winners" contest in which the winner will receive tickets to next year's Oscar Night® America. Joel Gibbs of Everything Entertainment on 1040 AM and 1350 AM was the Master of Ceremonies, while WPVI-TV 6ABC News Anchor Sarah Bloomquist was host as guests dined and watched the Academy Awards® Ceremony on a giant screen. Guests were also able to bid on items at the silent and live auctions, which featured everything from a mink wrap to a signed Philadelphia Flyers jersey by Bernie Parent! Proceeds raised from this year's event will benefit families with limited income, homeless families with special needs, and youth re-entering society from the juvenile justice system.
