Amani House

In March of 1995, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley opened the doors to Amani House, the first program of its kind in the City of Trenton. The mission is to provide effective, quality transitional housing and services to those in need, helping to foster self-sufficiency and independent living.

Amani House is a 26-bed transitional housing facility for single homeless men. The goals are to enable the clients to become self-sufficient and to find and keep permanent employment and housing.

Amani House was developed by Volunteers of America Delaware Valley in a partnership with the City of Trenton to help the large population of homeless men in Trenton. The Mercer County Board of Social Services refers residents. Amani House provides these otherwise homeless men with a stable living environment for up to one year.

Amani House is a supportive housing program that provides a secure environment, assessment and counseling, service/treatment planning, workshops, intensive case management and emotional support. During the day, residents attend programs at other agencies in the area such as job readiness training and substance abuse meetings.

Residents are also required to attend two (2) in-house workshops a week such as nutrition, budgeting, resume writing, relationships or computer skills. During their stay, they are encouraged to find employment and/or participate in vocational or educational training. In addition, residents must also attend a weekly house meeting, maintain a clean living environment and prepare their own meals excluding dinner.
