Welcome to Volunteers of America Delaware ValleyVolunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, faith-based organization providing local human service programs, and opportunities for individual and community involvement. On March 8, 1896, Volunteers of America was founded by Christian social reformers Ballington and Maud Booth as a broad spiritual movement to "reach and uplift" the American people. Today, Volunteers of America is a national organization with 38 affiliates across the United States. Volunteers of America Delaware Valley On March 30, 1896, the Booths held an organization meeting at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia to establish their movement in the Delaware Valley. Since then, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley has assisted those in need in the Delaware Valley to achieve self-determination and independent living. Volunteers of America Delaware Valley staff and volunteers work directly with the community and with county, city and state governments to develop services and programs that provide immediate and long-term benefits to those in need. Presently, we operate 43 separate programs serving persons who are experiencing homelessness, seeking permanent housing, struggling with addictive behavior, coping with chronic mental illness and developmental disabilities, returning to society from the criminal justice system, and dealing with domestic violence.
